Exploring Missoula’s Riverfront Walking Trail

When people say a river runs through Missoula, they mean it.  The river cuts right through the heart of Missoula and is surrounded by a number of things to do, views to enjoy and sights to see all along the trail system on the north and south sides.

Taking a walk along the north side of the Clark Fork River, the trail begins just down from our location at Comfort Inn University.  Starting with the pedestrian bridge there are many areas to explore right along the trail system!

Jacob's Island & Bark park:

Jacob's Island is just off of the pedestrian bridge on the eastern side of downtown Missoula.  The island offers a great place to see the river, as well as spend an afternoon with your favorite dog.  You may even meet a few new friends while you are there.

Clark Fork Native Prairie in John H Toole Park:

Along the south side of the river, the John H Toole Park sits along the Kim Williams Trail.  The park has a football field and running track as well as a beautiful native prairie area.

Old Milwaukee Depot:

The Old Milwaukee Depot once was a stop along the railroad, but now is home to the Boone & Crockett Club. The Book and Crockett Club Visitors Gallery gives visitors a chance to see displays of big game animals from around North America.

McCormick Park:

McCormick Park area is home to several different recreational activities. Just a few of the activities include Silver Summit All Abilities Playground, MOBASH Skate Park, Silver's Lagoon which is perfect for kids to cast their first fishing lines, along with Currents indoor aquatic center.

Caras Park & Brennan's Wave:

Along the north side of the Clark Fork River, Caras Park is home to many of Missoula's favorite events throughout the summer.  On any given day Caras Park is filled with people enjoying the views of the river or headed to a local BrewFests and craft fairs, the annual Symphony in the Park concert, or settling in to watch river surfers at Brenna's Wave right at the waters edge.

A Carousel for Missoula:

Next door to Caras Park and Brennan's Wave is A Carousel for Missoula. A Carousel for Missoula was built by volunteers throughout the Missoula community and opened in 1995.  It is one of the faster carousels in the world.
