Missoula Marathon Weekend

The Missoula Marathon is one of the biggest, most energetic, and uplifting weekends in Missoula. Runners train for months to years and arrive in our charming mountain town to run the course of a lifetime. The Missoula Marathon has gained attention from runners and enthusiasts from around the world. In 2010, Runners World named the marathon the #1 marathon in the country. In the end of 2017, BibRave named the marathon the #1 marathon in the country. And this month, in January of 2018, Runners World again credited the Missoula Marathon, calling it the #1 bucket list marathon in the world. If you are running the marathon, half-marathon, or 5K, or if you are visiting Missoula with your family and friends who are running, here are a few tips from us here at the Comfort Inn about the marathon weekend.

Convenient Location

The Comfort Inn is the closest hotel to the shuttle pick-up point at the Adams Center and within walking distance of Caras Park and the finish line, making it a top location to stay for the marathon. We offer free bike rentals, so spectators can bike to some viewing points around town or bike to town after the race to celebrate with the finishers! Click here to book your stay in our Marathon Courtesy Block.

The Adams Event Center, the shuttle pick-up point for the marathon, is a 0.6 mile walk across the Clark Fork River from the Comfort Inn.

Missoula Tips

Missoula is situated at an elevation of 3200 feet, so visitors from sea-level might consider arriving a day or two early to acclimate to the air.

Missoula is located between Yellowstone and Glacier national parks, and it is also within driving distance of many Montana gems like hot springs, ghost towns, dude-ranches, world-class fly fishing and hiking, and museums. Let the marathon be your excuse to springboard into Montana adventure. And the Comfort Inn, located right off I-90, is the perfect spot to start.

Marathon Viewing Hot Spots

The entire route is scenic along the Missoula Marathon, but here are a few of our top spots to view the race. Check out RWM's spectator map for locations.

Bike over to Bonner Park, a great place for kids with fun play equipment that is near the Splash Park. Pack a picnic and have a fun-filled summer day while waiting on the runners to come by. There very well could be live music or other fun entertainment there during the marathon. Located only a few miles from downtown, this is the last water station before the finish.

The finish line, located in the heart of downtown Missoula at Higgins and Front, ends across the Clark Fork River. The energy is high and the opportunities for Missoula fun are endless. Nearby in Caras Park there will be live music and, later, the awards presentation as well as food trucks. Or you can hop into any Missoula downtown establishment and enjoy great grub. Finishers received a local craft beer at the finish line. Go celebrate in downtown!

Caras Park, located steps from downtown and less than a mile from the Comfort Inn, is where the awards are held following the Marathon.
