Missoula is
a music town: on any given night, you can see a headliner, attend a symphony, attend
a musical or check out a local musician at a brewery or bar. The charm of
Missoula lies in the quality of music found within our small town. And what’s
better—before and after the shows, you have millions of miles of wilderness to
explore, dozens of museums to take in and plenty of top-quality restaurants to
sample and enjoy. Here are a few of our favorite venues in Missoula to check
out when you are planning your trip.
The Wilma
The Wilma is
a historic theatre that was built in 1921. Remodeled in 2013, The Wilma is a
staple to the music community in our town. This intimate, 1,000+ person venue
attracts headliners from across the country and the world. This is a great
place to spend an evening and enjoy a good show.
The Top Hat
Sister to
The Wilma, the Top Hat is also newly remodeled in 2013 and features live music
almost nightly. This intimate venue is great for night out. Enjoy dinner from
their delicious, seasonally rotating menu, too.
Kettlehouse and Big Sky Amphitheaters
Missoula
boasts two amphitheaters which feature live music in the summer months.
Kettlehouse Amphitheater is home to Logjam Presents’ summer live music calendar,
and Big Sky Amphitheatre is home to the Traveler’s Rest Fest, a 2-day music
celebration in the mountains of Montana.
Adams Center
The Adams
Center, located on the University of Montana’s campus, features large names in
music and theatre. Broadway performances stop here when they visit Montana, and
comedians like Nick Offerman have made pit stops here as well.
Caras Park
Caras Park
is the heart of Missoula in the summer months. Outdoor (and usually free!)
concerts happen here weekly, from the Downtown Association sponsored Downtown
ToNight and Out to Lunch, to Symphony in the Park where local symphonies
perform under the warm summer air. Brewfests take over Caras in the summer, and
with them come local live bluegrass performances, too.
